When most couples begin planning their engagement photos they look online for inspiration. Those photos, of course, usually involve a little white dress to symbolize bride-to-be and a nice semi-suit for the groom-to-be.
But its 2025 and let me be the first to tell you that it is okay to dress like yourself!
The beauty of planning a wedding is that you can be creative and tell a story that best represents your relationship. My number one rule for couples in all photoshoots is dress comfortable above all else.
Because if you naturally are uncomfortable posing in front of the camera, then a tight mini dress that’s all white is not going to help.
Consider styling your outfits around the colors of your wedding, what you would wear for a date night, and what you would feel comfortable sitting, dancing, laying, and being picked up in.
The inspiration is not, "I’m the bride" because everyone already knows that. The inspiration is, "What do I feel comfortable in?" and "What feels like us?"
Neutrals (Beige, Blue Jeans, Forest Greens, etc.) work for a lot of skin tones and are easier to match. You can also add pops of your wedding colors to neutrals through patterns, jewelry, and props in your photos.
Other great things to consider, the weather on the day and the location of your photoshoot. If your taking photos in the park, a garden inspired outfit makes a statement piece. Usually, a flowy dress paired with nice sandals or block heels make for functional and cute looks.
If you're in the city, you could wear a shorter dress or pant suit. Something you would wear for a coffee date or reflects the architecture of the buildings. Always bring layers like sweaters, scarfs, hats. Especially if you live in Texas! lol
Makeup and hair are always best done with simplicity. Soft glam always is complimentary to your natural face and enhances your natural glow.
Having your hair half-up half-down or fully up prevents your face from being covered in every shot. Or embrace your hair fully down because the weather is perfect and you love a more whimsical look.
Clean nails are a must for both women and men! Those detail ring shots tell all. And take care in your personal hygiene the day of. For a few minutes to an hour or so, you will be snuggling close.
